KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 17.02 g, 1 h), Uranopolis (?), under Alexarchos, circa 310-297. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. ΑΛΕΞANΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle with closed wings in right; to left, star on cone; below throne, Π below strut. Ehrhardt 62. Price 514. Attractively toned. Very fine.

From a German collection, privately acquired from Dr. Michael Brandt in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
This coinage was likely minted in Uranopolis under Alexarchos (circa 350-290 BC), a brother the Macedonian king Kassander, who is said to have founded a utopian community there
